Adolphe Nicolas was a former Volapükist who represented his own language, Spokil, at the meetings of the Delegation for the adoption of an international auxiliary language in 1907. He became quite annoyed when Otto Jespersen began to question him about the Spokil vocabulary (which Nicolas claimed was based on principles that made it most simple to memorize). Apparently, he could not remember the words he had come up with.
